ARTNOW presents:

Barbara Simmons

For Barbara Simmons, painting is akin to visual poetry.  Nature has always been the source of inspiration for the images that she paints. Light, color, and transparency are the abstract foundation of her work. Color in particular, is a continuing focus of study.

Process is everything to Barbara. Her personal journey has led her to be elected to the Canadian Society of Aquarelle, the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Color, and the Louisiana Watercolor Society. Over the past twenty-five years, she has exhibited her works in galleries in Montreal, Toronto, Annapolis Royal and Sarasota as well as juried competitions both nationally and internationally.

Catherine Maclaren

" Her painting is characterized by a form of simplicity - a deceptive simplicity, may I say - because most, if not all of her paintings emanate something, a constant energy…  The painted sign is hence the medium for an expression of energy.  This isn’t granted to all artists.  This painting is a proof of the inexhaustible nature of painting, of its ability - as in literature, as in music - to convey a multitude of spiritual states, of man’s ability to be, to vibrate as microcosm. "
" Painting as a Spiritual Gesture. An essay of discovery."
