Catherine Young Bates

''I believe that handmade and intuitive art is a balance for the smoothness and remoteness of our global machine-driven age. I collect information from what I see; I paint the things I cannot see - the  air and energy of the landscape, still life,  and figure subjects.  Faith in beauty, and in the intellectual and moral dignity of art, is my survival belief.''

Catherine Young Bates was born in Windsor, Ontario.  Studies include Victoria College, U of T (honours Art and Archaeology), Ontario College and Education, Baltimore Museum of Art, Maryland Institute of Art, and McGill University (M.Ed.) She has taught many workshops throughout Quebec and until recently was a full time professor in the Fine Arts Department of Dawson College.
